The poison moth knife (formerly venomous dagger and bug knife) is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest series. Of unusual design, it can induce paralysis on contact 1/8th of the time.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest IV[]

Making its debut, it has an attack bonus of +24, and can be wielded by Borya, Torneko Taloon, Maya & Meena. Laurel has one among his equipment.

It can be purchased for 750 gold coins, and sold for 562. Tessie will sell it at Torneko's shop for 1,125.

Dragon Quest V[]

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +24. It can be purchased in Stockenbarrel for 900 gold.

Dragon Quest VI[]

The knife may be equipped by Milly, Ashlynn, Nevan, Goowainn and the slime buddies. It has an attack bonus of +24, and a style bonus of +13. It is dropped by Giant Moths, appropriately enough, and the paralysis effect will trigger with all slash and punch skills.

Dragon Quest VII[]

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +23 and an appearance bonus of +13. It can be equipped by Maribel and Melvin and is obtained at Falrod after an event.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +29. It can only be equipped by Jessica and can be purchased in Pickham for 950 gold.

Dragon Quest IX[]

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +24, and may be alchemized by combining a Divine dagger with two helpings of Coagulant and one spot of Manky Mud. The weapon can be further refined into the Batterfly Knife by combining it with three helpings of Coagulant and three Butterfly wings.

The batterfly knife has an attack bonus of +38, and will deal an additional 20% damage to Bug family monsters in addition to causing paralysis. The blade can be honed further by combining it with one Disturbin' Turban and five Butterfly wings, resulting in the Dread Dagger. The papallion poker has an attack bonus of +57, and keeps the same bonuses of its weaker forms.

Dragon Quest X[]

The poison moth knife can be used by Mages, thieves, Dancers, and Pirates at level 7, giving them an ATK bonus of +12 attack and a 3% chance to paralyse the opponent. It can be dropped by Bubble slimes and Illerpillars.

Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Series[]

Reappearing from Battle Road II onwards, it can be equipped by Priests and has a ATK bonus of +16 and an AGL bonus of +19. If combined with the Poison needle via the Gladiator's Double Weapon Scan, it becomes the Mercury's rapier.

Poison Summons a purple moth that scatters green glowing scales and damages all enemies while potentially blinding them.
Paralysis Slash Damages one enemy while potentially paralyzing them.
