Prince Gurie is a character that appears in Dragon Quest X. He is the secondary prince of the Orseco Kingdom.

Appearance[]

Gurie mostly resembles the typical Ogre with red skin, a tail, pointed ears, horns, and spiked shoulders. He has short white hair like Prince Gilgalan, a toned physique, and blue eyes. In terms of apparel, he wears a white double-breasted vest with blue and gold accents. Underneath it, he wears a sleeveless, tight black shirt. Additionally, he wears a white skirt that features a diamond pattern alongside blue, gold, and orange accents. His footwear of choice is sandals, and he has bracelets and armlets of gold on his arms. Notably, he is considered short for an Ogre.

Personality[]

Gurie's personality contrasts greatly with that of his younger brother. Unlike the strong, violent attitude of Gilgalan, Gurie is considered sickly and kind, even going so far as to give the throne of the Orseco Kingdom to his younger brother due to his weak state, noting that Ogre society values physical strength in a leader. He is greatly intelligent and selfless, often doing what he must to get his brother to warm up to others or prevent him from making fatal mistakes.

Version 4.2[]

Initially the first prince of the Orseco Kingdom 1300 years from the present in X, Gurie was born with a sickly, weak body. He is noted to have possibly been adopted by King Zoldgrin and Queen Lalaria around the time that Gilgalan was born. Noticing his frailness as he grew up alongside his brother, Gurie chose to relinquish his status as the first prince in order to uphold Ogre society's favorability towards physically strong leaders. Thus, Gilgalan became the first prince, with the public believing he was the older brother. The only people who knew the truth of Gurie being the eldest were his parents and a minister named Munyu,

Upon the arrival of the protagonist in his era, Gurie does what he can to inform them of the current situation in the Orseco Kingdom and getting Gilgalan to reduce his hostility towards them.

It is soon revealed that Gurie was attempting to find a way to seal the demon Zongaron to prevent tragedy. However, by the time he learned the seal, Zongaron had killed Gilgalan and wreaked havoc upon the Orseco Kingdom. In this history, it is stated Gurie then went on to live a life of disappointment, suffering from crippling regret over not being able to save his brother, with no indication of whether or not he ascended to the throne after Gilgalan's death.

With the protagonist's intervention, a new history is created where Gurie learns the Battle Dance and proceeds to teach it to the Orseco Kingdom's citizens and refugees to combat Zongaron. Though, in the end, Gurie perishes in his brother's place after protecting him from an attack from Zongaron and reconciling with him. Afterward, in his diaries, it is revealed that the prince was prepared to die in his brother's place after suffering from many dreams foretelling the death of Gilgalan and being determined to prevent it from happening. His diary ends with words of gratitude to the protagonist, thanking them for fulfilling his wish.
