The Rain Shrine is a shrine located to the west of the village of Kol in Alefgard during the time of the original Dragon Quest. It is preceded by the Tower of Rubiss in Dragon Quest III.

Biography[]

Making its debut, it is home to a man guarding the Staff of Rain. By bringing the Silver Harp to the man, the Hero may exchange it for the staff. In the game's HD-2D Remake, however, the Hero instead first encounters the Sage of Rain there. Later in the story when the Dragonlord's darkness gets more and more powerful, the Hero returns there to summon Rubiss, though the Sage of Rain is being attacked by Goregoyle, who demands the Staff of Rain from him, but the Sage refuses to hand it over, since it was entrusted to his family lineage by Erdrick and would rather die than give it up. Before the Goregoyle could harm the Sage of Rain, the Hero intervenes and the two fight, with Goregoyle vowing to make him dead as a dodo, though the monster loses.

Dragon Quest II[]

As is the case of many Alefgard locations, the shrine does not appear on the world map in Dragon Quest II. In the HD-2D Remake, however, it is visited by the Scions of Erdrick after obtaining the Star Sigil, where they must save the Faeries from being attacked by Belial, one of Hargon's Unholy Trinity.
