Biography[]
One of the divine beasts of Astoltia, created by the god Gazbaran, the Sacred Bird originally protected the Ogres, before he, alongside most of his other fellow Divine Beasts, was eventually sealed away in Nagaland following Nadraga's betrayal of his family. In order to ensure the survival of the Dragons now trapped, the Sacred Bird in particular taking the Dragons living in the Flame Realm of the now splintered former-continent under his protection.
According to a legend, at some point the Dragons upset the Sacred Bird, but were able to appease him with a song in his honor.
Centuries later, the Sacred Bird was corrupted by an unknown Evil Will to wreck havoc across Nagaland's fiery territory; besieging the local village near its abode, Apeka, the young men of the settlement reunited to exterminate what they thought was just a powerful but average monster, only for being wiped out when the Sacred Bird unexpectedly recuperated his strength by consuming magma. One of the warriors, Rezero, realizing the true identity of the bird, ripped off some of the taill feathers of the creature and entrusted them to his brother Gida, telling him to run away, retrive his old harp and to play the song they used to like as children, even going as far sacrificing himself to ensure Gida's escape by collapsing the entrance of the lair. This was because Gida, as an harp musician, was the only one who knew the music of the ancient song meant to appease the Sacred Bird, and Rezero had figured that the song was the best chance they had to restore the Divine Beast to his original benevolent self.
Meanwhile, upon reaching Nagaland, the Hero, separated from their companions, Mjoll and Distan, landed in the Flame Realm and immediately had an encounter with the corrupted Sacred Bird, ending up badly burnt by his now black flames when the divine beast passed above them; fortunately, they were promptly rescued by the passing Estelle, who brought them to Apeka and nursed them back to health.
After rescuing the injured Gida, and realizing what Rezero had himself figured out, the group, composed of Gida, Estelle and the Hero, journeyed to the lair of the Sacred Bird, intending to purify the Divine Beast, which they succeed after a battle. Upon being purified, the Sacred Bird allowed the group to see the lingering spirits of the dragon warriors who had recently died fighting him, them having become one with the divine beast in order to be safely brought to the afterlife; this allowed Gida to say goodby to Rezero, who in turn encouraged him to protect Apeka in his stead and to belive in his own abilities.
After returning to Apeka, the group explained what had transpired and, upon seeing the Sacred Bird fly above them, the villagers reunited in a silent prayer for their lost compatriots: meanwhile, for their service in aiding the dragons, Estelle rewarded the Hero with an introductory letter, allowing them to enter the great city of Enjarna, the biggest city of Nagaland and main base of operations for the Cult of Nadraga.
Having the hunch that the flame of the Sacred Bird, which never goes out, could be the key to solve the second trial of the Tower of Fire, Estelle and the Hero retrived the sacred torch kept in Estelle old hometown, the now ruined village of Matil, and then asked the Sacred Bird to share his flames with them, which he obliged, unaware of the purpose of their use.
