The scholar's specs, also known as the INT specs, are a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series. They increase the wearer's wisdom.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest III[]

The scholar's specs have a +15 wisdom bonus. They changes the wearer's Personality to Wit. They are received as a prize from the medal collector in Aliahan after turning in 35 mini medals. The scholar's specs can be sold for 1,275 gold, but it is not recommended to do so as there is only one pair in the game. They only appear in remake versions of the game.

Dragon Quest VII[]

The scholar's specs have a +15 wisdom bonus. They can be equipped by the HeroMaribelSir Mervyn, and Aishe. Three pairs can be found in Gröndal, El Magnifico de Puente Pomposo, and the Immigrant Town / the Haven in a chest requiring the Magic Key.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

The scholar's specs have a +15 wisdom bonus and can be equipped by all characters. They can be purchased from Argonia once the Bazaar starts for 2,700 gold and sold for 1,350 gold. One pair can be found at the Holy Isle of Neos. They are also dropped rarely by Sea dragons. Scholar's specs can also be used to make the scholar's cap in the Alchemy Pot by combining it with a magical hat.

  • In the 3DS version, if Jessica wears the scholar's specs with the Abiding blazer, her appearance will change.

Description
Stylish spectacles that make buffoons look like brainiacs

Lke the vast majority of the available accessories, Scholar's specs can be created through Alchemy; through a lucky Sweet Success creation, they can be made from the start already at a rank of +1, then with successive melding with other copies of themselves, an individual pair of Scholar's specs can be ugraded to up to a +3 rank, adding a total of 3 other additional effects to their base one; these effects are chosen at random from a pool of possible bonuses available for this particular accessory.

The Scholar's specs are considered, alongside the Gold ring, the Gold chain, the Gold bracer, and the Bunny tail, as a base accessory, and as such, they have only two possible recipes available for their creation. The Quick recipe, like all Quick recipes except for the Gold ring, can be bought by exchanging Mini medals, 1 in this case; alternatively, like its better counterpart, the Classic recipe, it can be found very rarely as a secret drop from Magi. Alternatively, these recipes could potentially be found inside a treasure chest, but even more rarely than from the enemy drops.

As such, since it is not ideal to find as a drop a Quick recipe that could had been purchased instead, it is preferable to spend a Mini medal and learn the Quick recipe as soon as possible, thusly increasing the chances for the monsters to drop the better, rarer quality recipe rather then the one that is already more easily accessible.
