The seed of resilience, formerly known as the seed of defense, DEFseed, or Vitality Seed, is an item in the Dragon Quest series that permanently raises the defence (or in later versions, resilience) of whoever eats it. It can give 3-5 defence points. They can be found in treasure chests, pots, drawers, and sometimes are dropped by monsters. They cannot be bought at any store.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest[]
Although absent from the original NES version, they can be found in the remakes of Dragon Quest.
Dragon Quest II[]
Two DEFseeds are found in Lune tower on the 1st and 4th floor chests.
Dragon Quest III[]
Lucky seeds are carried by Heedoo Voodoos (1⁄32), Lump wizards, Wyrtoises, Drac the Vlads (1⁄64), and Cureslimes, Waspions, Hell ninos (1⁄128). They can sold for 90 gold coins and found in:
Dragon Quest IV[]
The item was cut from the original NES version of this game, but it returned (in the form of まもりのたね from Dragon Quest V in Japanese versions) in the remakes.
Dropped by Imp, Whizzard, Demon thunderer, Red dragon, and Venus guytrap.
Dragon Quest V[]
The まもりのたね mamori no tane (Protection Seed) made its first appearance in the original version of this game. Unlike the "Stamina seed" from DQIII, this item raised the status of みのまもり mi no mamori (protection) rather than たいりょく tairyoku (stamina/endurance) (which was removed), which was a new stat first added to this game. This distinction is lost in localization.
In all future games that came after this (but including remakes of I, II and IV) - excluding remakes of III - this item (the まもりのたね "Protection Seed") is what appears. The stat みのまもり (protection) is also, with a few exceptions, what appears in most subsequent games, rather than たいりょく (stamina).
Dragon Quest VI[]
Two seeds of resilience are found in the game. The first is in Weaver's Peak on the tavern's upper floor. The second is in a chest in the Cryptic Catacombs.
Dragon Quest VII[]
The seed of reesilience can be dropped by Armoured scorpions, Metal slimes, Armoured wartoises, Frighturns, Live lavas and Ironclad wartoises
Dragon Quest VIII[]
It raises the resilience of a single character and can be sold for 15 Gold Coins.
Dragon Quest IX[]
The seed of defense is dropped by a few monsters including the Lethal armour in the Gittish Empire. It is also a reward for quests 24 and 56.
Dragon Quest X[]
The seed of resilience can only be obtained in rewards from Quests 312, 368 and 388.
Dragon Quest XI[]
The seed of defence can be dropped by a few monsters including the Malicious Mosstodons in The First Forest.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[]
Seeds of resilience can be dropped rarely by Metal king slimes and Shell slimes.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[]
Seed of resilience can be bought at the vending machine for a maximum of 1000G when it's maxed out.
Dragon Quest Tact[]
Appearing as a skill in this game, it is already learned by Kiefer when he is recruited and greatly increases his or any of his allies' DEF for 3 turns, costing 16 MP for the Prince of Estard to use.
Dragon Quest Treasures[]
A replica seed of defence is treasure No. 309 in the items category, with a base value of 900,000.
