Shogum is a boss monster from the Dragon Quest series who first appeared in Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road, and also resides in grottoes in Dragon Quest IX.

A more superior version of the slime knight. Shogum is a red King slime monster with a white beard, a black knight's helmet and a black knight that wears a crown and is armed with two swords for combat.

Appearing as one of Zenus's halves after Corvus's attack on the Observatory, he fights the Hero in the Grottoes, desiring to be reunited with the other Grotto bosses.

Etymology[]

Being a high-order slime rider, "shogum" is a pun on shōgun, the class of ruling knights and generals that dominated Japanese mediaeval and pre-Meiji history.
