The somnol ant (Somnabulant in DQotS) is a monster who appears in the Dragon Quest series.

Somnol ants are similar to other ants found in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, but sport a reddish or purple tint. They are capable of very simple magic that can put someone to sleep.
