Dragon Quest Wiki

Spiked hare is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.

Characteristics[]

Though they look cute and cuddly in violet, spiked hares are fierce critters with massive horns on the crowns of their heads between the ears. The horn is composed of multiple segments. With the ability to muster strength, a spiked hare will often take a breath for one or more turns, then ram its target horn-first. Fortunately for the party, they are among the weaker beasts and should fall within a round or two. It is advisable to fell any spiked hares in mobs first, even if other foes are stronger.

Strategy[]

Spiked Hares have the ability to Psyche Up and tend to get to 20 before they attack. Their base damage is low but at 20 tension, they can deal about 30-35 damage.

Tips to Combat:

- Prioritize the Spiked Hares with higher tension.

- If you do NOT have the initiative and a Spiked Hare has 20 tension. Order your whole party to defend unless you're sure you can tank the attack.

- Treat with Medium Priority depending on tension levels.

Etymology[]

The spiked hare's Japanese name, Almiraj, preserved in the English GBC translations, refers to mythical beasts called Al-mi'raj, which were large rabbits with single, long horns. Its current English name is a pun on "spiked hair", given the horn on its head.
