The Supreme Sword of Light is a recurring sword weapon in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest XI. This particular name specifically refer to the ultimate form taken by the second blade forged by the second Luminary. Unlike its other two variations, the Supreme Sword of Light does not have a central role in the story, being instead completely optional to obtain.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest XI[]

After the Luminary's voyage to the past and the return of the Dark One of old, by repeating the same actions he previously had done while facing the all-powerful Mordegon, the hero can once again forge his own personal Sword of Light to wield alongside the now reclaimed Super Sword of Light.

In order to do so he and his party needs to, once again, retrive a lump of Rarefied orichalcum from the floating isle only known as The Battleground, track down the mighty Forging Hammer safely kept by the desert kingdom of Gallopolis, this time by winning Platinum Cup at Gallopolis Racetrack, and reach The Crucible, an ancient and mystical forge hidden inside the very crater of the volcano Mount Huji.

After accomplishing this, the Luminary can then obtain a special recipe from Erdwin's old companion Drustan, as a reward for completing one of his trials, necessary to further enhance his personal Sword of Light into surpassing in power even Erdwin's own,

By smelting it on the Fun-Size Forge together with a Sword of Kings, some Crimsonite, some Spectralite and some Über Agate of Evolution, the Sword of Light is re-forged into the vastly superior Supreme Sword of Light. This blade retains its previous incarnation altered appearance compared to the Super Sword of Light, making it resemble less the design of Erdrick's sword.

The Supreme Sword of Light blade has a base power of +151 attack and a bonus +94 charm, and unlike the other variants of the Sword of Light, it can be boosted with the Fun-Size Forge to qualities of +1,+2 or +3, further enhancing it's attributes to, respectively, +166 attack +96 charm, +181 attack +98 charm and finally +196 attack +100 charm, making it one of the strongest one-hand swords alongside the Hypernova sword. Also the Supreme Sword of Light has the combined abilities of the standard Sword of Light and the Super Sword of Light: when attacking, just like the other the Swords of Light, it inflicts Lightning damage to the enemies, it has a 3% chance when attacking to remove any beneficial effects the enemies may be under to and lastly when used as an item in battle it can cure an ally from all negative status effects. The Supreme Sword of Light lacks however the ability of the Super Sword of Light to destroy Calasmos' shroud of darkness.

Trivia[]

  • The blade of the Supreme Sword of Light forged by the Luminary, as well as its lesser version, the Sword of Light, bears a striking resemblance to the blade of the Zenithian sword.
  • As a story point, the items in the inventories of the party excluding the Luminary, will be taken note of and saved once they reach Arboria's cathedral for the first time in act I. At the start of act III all items will be transfered into the Luminary's bag and still remain in his possesion when he travels back in time, this process resulting in the duplication of the items that were originally in the party's inventories, making it possible to duplicate items that otherwise would only exist as unique items, such as Belle's bow. In the Switch version, thanks to the option to replay previous chapters of the story while retaining levels and items, by switching between 2D and 3D mode, this process can also be repeated with items normally avayable only in later parts of the story and for as many times one sees fit, essentially exploiting it to create endless copies of powerful items. However, anticipating this, some items are purposely coded to be impossible to duplicate, with some of them being even banned of being brought back to previous chapters at all; this is the case for all variations of the Sword of Light, including the Supreme Sword of Light, making it truly impossible for it to co-exist with the standard Sword of Light used in its forging.
  • The scabbard seen in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not used in the actual game, however, a scabbard with the same design and slightly different coloration can be seen in Dragon Quest XI's Western box art.
