Sword tempering is a central method of upgrading weapons in Dragon Quest Swords. The tempering process is done by the weapon shop in the town of Castle Avalonia. By bringing a specific sword, along with the correct combination of tempering materials, the player can achieve sword upgrades. Sword tempering often yields newly learned Master Stroke techniques along with the new weapon.
