Terrestria, or the Real World (also known as the "phantom world" by the inhabitants of the Dream World) is the name given to one of the otherwise unnamed overworlds of Dragon Quest VI It would evolve into the worlds of Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest V.
General description and history[]
The so-called Real World was connected to another plane of existence, the Dream World, which was given form, from its very land to its people, by the thoughts and memories of those currently living in the Real World.
Another plane of existence connected to the Real world was the dark one created by the evil Mortamor, the so-called Dread Realm, from which the demon directed his armies in an attempt to re-fashion all worlds, real or imagined, as subjects to his tyranny, before being stopped by the Hero and his party.
During the era of Dragon Quest VI, it was possible even a normal ship to explore the floor of the ocean thanks to the magical properties of the Lorelei's harp.
After the events of VI, the Real World became mostly separate from these two other dimensions, with the exception of the giant floating castle Cloudsgate Citadel, later known as Zenithia, the last remnant of the Dream Wold still connected to the Real World after the two planes of existence got divided. From there the guardian of the world, the Zenith Dragon and his followers, the Zenithians, did their best to protect the world from above.
Several hints, spread across the three titles of IV, V and VI, seem to strongly indicate that as time proceeded, the Real World would eventually across the eons, progressively radically change in both geography and culture, evolving into ,the world seen in Dragon Quest IV, and then, even further ahead in time, into the one seen in Dragon Quest V.
By those times, an underground world densely populated by wicked demons and monsters known as Nadiria or the Underworld, had become connected to the larger world thanks to a cavernous passage and, at least by V, the vast majority of the Faerie race would monitor and regulate the four seasons of the larger world from a mystical pocket dimension, known as the Faerie Realm.
Centuries before the beginning of Dragon Quest IV, the Lord of the Underworld Estark dicovered the forbidden Secret of Evolution and, empowered by it, tried to destroy the world, before being stopped by the people of Zenithia. A thousand years later, the misguided Psaro tried to resurrect Estark to purge the world from humanity, but after being betrayed by his right man Aamon, Psaro instead forsook his crusade and joined forces with his supposed nemesis, the Hero of Zenithian descendance and and their group of Chosen, to defeat the wannabe tyrant, bringing peace to the world for untold centuries.
By the time of V, Nadiria had been sealed away from the rest of the world for many centuries, but the seal began to weaken and eventually broke due to the actions of the Order of Zugzwang, the evil followers of Grandmaster Nimzo the, at the time, ruler of Nadira and last follower of the foul Aamon. However his plan to conquer the world was stopped for good when, by a true stroke of fate, the Hero, an individual who already had suffered greatly all his life due to the Order's conspiracies, married one of the three last surviving descendants of Hero of Dragon Quest IV, birthing in the process another legendary hero destined to vanquish Nimzo.
This world is supposedly protected by the unnamed Goddess, the object of worship from the main religion, alongside the Zenith Dragon.
In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, the world is known as Terrestria.

Dragon Quest IV locations[]
Interestingly, unlike most other titles, in Dragon Quest IV a few of the various landmasses that make up the world have been given proper names, even though they are for the most part only briefly mentioned in minor and obscure dialogues: Zamoksva rules a northwestern continent known as Maestral, Mintos, El Forado, the world tree Yggdrasil and Parthenia are all located on the southeastern Siroc continent, Aubout du Monde, Havre Léon, the Mamon Mine and the Palais de Léon lie on the southwestern continent of Libeccio, while Riverton and the Diabolic Hall are located on the mountainous Ostro, located in the middle of the southern seas.
The world's biggest landmass, which occupy most of the northeastern portion of the map, is apparently without a denomination, and it is only addressed in relation to Endor, the largest city on its territory. The Trans-Montane Tunnel opened thanks to Torneko Taloon's financial sponsoring, now connects the continent of Endor with the region of Casabranca. Similarly, the large separate eastern region containing the settlement of Rosehill, the great western island on which the village Dunplundrin is located, the massive central island home of The Azimuth, and the most northwestern archipelago ruled by Canalot are all left without proper names.
Due to some of the implications of Dragon Quest V, it would seem that the settlement of Lofty Peak already existed by this point in history, never to be visited or seen by the Chosen, as the at the time human Nimzo hailed from this town, before his hubris would led him to become a follower of Aamon and transform himself into a demon.
In this era, the world was threatened by the reawakening of Estark by the hands of Psaro, who had a misguided loathing for humanity; however, the Chosen, the group supporting the Legendary Hero of Zenithian descendancy, foiled his plan and eventually even saved Psaro and his lover from the machinations of his evil subject, Aamon, who wanted to take over the world himself.

Dragon Quest V locations[]
Like in IV, in Dragon Quest V, the continents have once again proper names, with the northen landmass, homeland of Whealbrook and the kingdom of Coburg, being named Boreas, the huge western continent, home to the cities of Lodestar Harbour, Stockenbarrel and Mostroferrato, being known as the Zephyrus continent, while the eastern one is called the Apeliotes continent.
During the ten years of the Hero's imprisonment, a bridge was built, connecting the Boreas continent to a relatively smaller stretch of land, home to the city of Fortuna and the Heaven's above Abbey. Between the Boreas and Zephyrus continents, the small isle of Treasure Island, where Pontoon can be found, a small beach settlement that developed once the luxurious casino ship Ventuno, owned by the rich entrepreneur Rodrigo Briscoletti, was docked in the island's bay in a semi-permanent state due to the increase of sea monsters attacks.
In this era, the world was in danger due to the Order of Zugzwang, who posed as a benevolent religious cult, when in reality they were doing abominable actions behind the scenes, attempting to break the seal on Nadiria and allow their Grandmaster Nimzo to take over the world, and he would have succeeded If not for the brave actions of the royal family of Gotha and their friends, lead by the wise leadership of the Hero.

Trivia[]
- All of the continental monikers of Dragon Quest IV and V are inspired by the names of actual winds the blows on the nations touched by the Mediterranean Sea (the winds of Mistral, Libeccio, Sirocco, Ostro, Zephyr, Boreal wind), and their orientation corresponds to the landmasses' positions on the map. The exeption being the continent of Apeliotes, which is instead named after the ancient greek god of winds. The Trans-Montane Tunnel takes its name from the wind of Tramontane.
