The Great Leveller is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest VII[]
Making its debut, the Hero can learn it by examining the grave beneath the Grand Conjuratorium after speaking with the chief researcher in the area's past. It can remove all buffs such as Kabuff and Oomph from one enemy and costs 15 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest of the Stars[]
Reappearing after a long hiatus, it is the main skill of the Okeanos sword★, but otherwise acts the same as in its debut game.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
The Great Leveller is learned by Healix, through the use of a Lapis Leveli after Lazarel, Teresa, and their allies saved the Queen of Ingenia and her subjects, Major Domo and Major Arcana, from Dhuran and his army of monster minions. Originally, the party wanted the direct aid from the Queen, a talented spellcaster who herself knew how to cast the Great Leveller; her majesty however, electing to stay behind in order to support her people, instead bestowed on the party the Lapis Leveli, which unfortunately had a caveat: its raw power was so great, that only a monster spellcaster would be able to withstand its use. Hence, the party had to rely on Healix, who was fortunately just enough strong to make the cut for the spell. At Accordia, Jessica would then speculate that the Lapis Leveli may be an invention of the Queen herself; Torneko Taloon on the other hand, wondered if, when everything was said and done, the Queen would allow him to sell the Lapis Leveli.
Upon receiving this new ability, the group used the Great Leveller to break the barrier leading to the High King and his "twin brother"'s throne room at the very top of the Pinnacle of Peace, though they had to first protect the Healslime from an onslaught of monsters like Infernal armours, Tyrantosauruses and Dark brownies before he succeeded. Healix later on, tried to use it again at the Black Manse, but the barrier put into place was much, much stronger and rejected the spell, until he was able to cast a stronger spell, The Greater Leveller.
