Thwack is a recurring instant-death spell in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Targets a whole group of enemies with the chance to instantly kill them.

Appearance[]

Dragon Quest II[]

Making its debut, Thwack is learned by the Prince of Cannock at level 23 (level 27 in the Nintendo Switch version), and costs 4 MP to cast. It is also used by Wrecktors, Pazuzu, and (Infamously), Frostburns who will cast it ceaselessly in the NES version.

Dragon Quest III[]

Priests and Sages will learn Thwack at level 28, and it costs 7 MP to cast remaining so until IX. It is also used by Silhouettes, Mimics, Soaring scourgers, and Imps though they always fail at casting it.

Dragon Quest IV[]

Kiryl learns Thwack at levels 24 to 26 and costs 7 MP to cast once again, though in the NES version he will always cast it only for it to fail. It is also used by Blizzybodies, Bone barons, and Terracotta Warriors, as well as Mimics and Imps once again, though the former can only cast it in the NES version, and the latter once again epically fails.

Thwack is learned by recruited Orc kings at level 15, Samiginas at level 20, Bianca and Nera at level 23, her sister at level 25, and is already learned by recruited Snowbirds. It costs 7 MP to cast once again and is also used by Snowbirds as well as Mimics once again.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Thwack is learned by advancing to Rank 7 of the Priest vocation, and once again costs 7 MP to cast. It is once again used by Mimics in all versions of the game expect for the mobile port, but can also be cast by Devil glasses, Haunted mirrors, and Infernal panes when they have Morphed into a character that has the spell.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Thwack is learned by reaching Rank 1 of the sage vocation in the original and 3DS remake, as well as mastering the Mimic vocation. It once again costs 7 MP to cast and is also used by Gnuriels and Pandora's boxes in battle. In the 3DS remake, it is also used by Bags o' sweets, Black bishops, Black books, Gourd almighties, and Impostirs.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Acting the same as in previous games, Angelo learns Thwack at level 22. It once again costs 7 MP to cast and is also used by Morrimps, Coffers of death, and Marcello in the 3DS remake as well as Frostburns and Pandora's boxes once again in all versions.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Thwack is learned by Priests at level 34, working off of their Magical Mending and raises the base accuracy from 50% once the stat hits 100 points, capping at 100% effectiveness (barring resistance) at 999. It costs 10 MP to cast, and is also used by Wight priests, Uncommon colds, and Psaro at levels 22 to 29.

Dragon Quest X[]

An enemy only spell in this entry, it is used by Demon clouds, Whackolytes, Princes of darkness, Dead Man's Souls, Black batboons, Golden girls, Red Beast Buzzred, Razukeepers, Blood mages, Magic Solider Tanato, Injury Vortex, Demon alligator, and Ritual rater, as well as Frostburns, Snowbirds, Silhouettes, Morrimp, and Pazuzu once again, 2 of which use it for the first time since Dragon Quest II and Dragon Quest III, respectively. It costs 10 MP to cast once again.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Learned by Serena and Rab at level 49, it once again costs 10 MP to use and is also used by Brollympians, Terrornodons, Horknight watchmen, Batmandrills, Hardy hands gone Vicious, Pteranodons gone Malicious, and Psaroid, as well as Mimics, Silhouettes, and Golden Girls once again.
