Velzar

Velzar is a character in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and its animated adaptations. He's the King of the Abyss and the last intelligent dragon of the Underworld who is tremendously powerful to his friendly rival the Dark King Vearn himself.

History[]

Velzar is the last intelligent dragon. Him and his troops were defeated by the Dragon Knight, Baran while Hadlar attacked the surface.

He is immortal but was turned to stone after his defeat by Zenithian people.

His epithet "冥竜王" appears derived from the Dragonlord (竜王), although it was translated as either "King of the Abyss" or "Abyss Dragon King" in the anime subtitles.
In Dragon Quest of the Stars, an equipment set is based on him.
The initial plan for Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai was to continue the series after Vearn had died with Velzar as the main villain. However, this plan was soon discontinued.
