Vis mager is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.

Characteristics[]

The vis mager is a wizard monster and they are prestidigitators with yellow robes and a golden staff topped with a red orb. They are the most powerful sorcerers in the original game, second only to the Dragonlord himself.

Etymology[]

Pun of the Latin phrase vis major, meaning "great force", an apt description of this monster's magical prowess. Used as a legal term, vis major describes an external, irresistible force with significant effects on the circumstances of an argument, i.e. a natural disaster or similar "act of God".
