The Yggdrasil Flower is a key item in Chapter 6 in the remake of Dragon Quest IV and a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. Unlike the more common Yggdrasil Leaf, the Yggdrasil Flower normally blooms rarely at once every 1,000 years and/or 500 years.
Description[]
"The rarest of flowers that blooms but once every millennium."
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest IV Remakes[]
Making its game debut, it is an item that can revive someone beyond the power of the church, use of a Yggdrasil leaf, and/or the Zing spell line, something essential to reviving Rose, who was killed by humans under Aamon's magic. The Hero and the Chosen find Foo Yung and Chow Mein trying to burn a magic portrait of its blooming and fight them. After a hard, but ultimately victorious battle, they are rewarded with the blooming of the Yggdrasil Flower, which is shown to them on the aforementioned magic portrait. The Chosen later travel to Yggdrasil and obtain it close to where the Zenithian sword was, using it on the lone grave at Rosehill, and successfully resurrect Psaro's girlfriend. During that time, Sparkie takes his leave from the group, with Rose speculating that it's a Zenithian custom to report the Flower's bloom.
Dragon Quest X[]
Making its first main series appearance outside of remakes, it is bloomed every 500 years after the current guardian of Yggdrasil waters it with the sacred Aspersorium; only then that guardian is allowed to die, with the mantle passing on to the next individual.
In the present day, the current guardian, Miko Himea, performed the ceremony, and the flower bloomed. However, when Himea passed away, the elven patron deity herself, Eldona, possessed the body of her current God Vessel, the young Fura, and returned Himea's soul to the mortal realm. Eldona had foresaw that the Yggdrasil flower would come to play a very important role in the near future, and had thusly decided to delay Himea's passing for a short while longer in order to entrust its protection to her, the flower mystically entering Miko Himea's body.
Some time later, when Jagonuba revived himself and was able to slay Goddess Luciana, the flower was finally given to the Hero by Himea in order to revive the Goddess, though her soul ended up taking the form of a butterfly due to an incomplete revival, with Himea at long last passing away shortly after the flower was used.
Emblem of Roto[]
Debuting in the story, they are the seeds of Yggdrasil that bloomed after Imajin's defeat, reviving the people who were killed during the battle against him.
