Dragon Quest IX

300 years prior to the events of the game, King Nonus of Stornway made a pact with Yore. He would protect Stornway from the Gittish Empire and in return, Nonus offered up the lives of his neighbouring kingdom, Brigadoom, as a sacrifice. However, Yore also had a contract with them to wipe out not just Stornway, but the entire Protectorate as well.

Yore is responsible for sending Morag to Brigadoom to destroy it, which resulted in her sealing herself away with the Wight Knight.

Fearing that Yore would turn on them after wiping Brigadoom off the face of the Protectorate, Nonus managed to seal Yore in a coffin below Stornway Castle. During the post game story, a maddened Princess Simona, who had learned of the terrible deeds committed by her ancestor, freed Yore and tried to form a contract with him to restore Brigadoom in exchange for Stornway. However, Yore was enraged by being trapped in a coffin below Stornway, and decided to vent his anger by attempting to kill the citizens of Stornway, though he was soon destroyed by the Hero.
