Zoomethyst (いざないの石碑, Izanai Stone Monument) is a recurring mechanic in the Dragon Quest series.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest X[]
Retroactively making its debut from the latter half of Version 3.4 onwards, a Zoomethyst replaces the Priestesses as locations where the Hero can Zoom to via their Zoomstones, or thanks to the Bazoom casted by the Bazoom witches's services.
The more powerful Mega Zoomstone, while it permanently registers any major settlement visited across Astoltia and, after being upgraded, Rendacia, both the true and false one, and Nagaland, it is however, incapable to register locations marked by a Zoomethyst, namely the minor landmarks and dungeons, and as such it is still required to use of a regular Zoomstone or the Bazoom of a Bazoom witch in order to reach said locations.
The fast-travel items introduced in later Versions, the Time-Trotter's Trinket, the Abyss Jewel, and the Soul Candelabra, all followed in the Mega Zoomstone's footsteps, allowing to quickly register all locations, respectively, across time, of the Netherworld, and of Tenseikyo without the limitations of a regular Zoomstone, but, like regular Zoomstones, these fast-travel items all require to first have a location binded to them by interacting with special objects on-site, similarly to how a Zoomethyst works.
Version 7, alongside the item necessary to zoom across Zenias, the Star Seal Crystal, it also introduced the Bazoomstone, an evolved version of the Mega Zoomstone which replicates the effect of the Bazoom casted by the Bazoom Witches, expanding the number of memorized locations to the ones previously only reacheable with either a regular Zoomstone or Bazoom. As of Version 7.0, the Bazoomstone only added to the fast-travel menu any previously visited location belonging to a Version 1 region, meaning any locale located on the five continents of Wenna Islands, Dwachakka, Orgreede, Eltona, and Pukland, as well as Lendor and Luckland.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
Making its debut, they have been made since ancient times and can be found in all the Seven Realms (Harba, Dunisia, Ingenia, Kadava, Klor, and Al-Khazam), expect for the Dark World. A Zoomethyst can be activated even before obtaining the Zoomstone from the High King prior to visiting Dunisia, allowing to preventily store fast travel locations for later use of the leading hero, either Lazarel or Teresa, to Zoom to any Zoomethyst they find in the Seven Realms.
Interestingly, in the english localization, the terms "Zoomstone" and "Zoomethyst" are inverted: instead of using a Zoomstone for travelling to an attuned Zoomethyst, its a Zoomethyst used to travel to an attuned Zoomstone.
Design Differences[]
Zoomethysts are colored red during the events of Dragon Quest Heroes II and later blue, but in their official debut in X, they have an entirely different design, consisting of a green crystal with two rings rotating around it, though its color would not change after registering the destination.
